Holidays

Living as an Afro-European has it's ups and downs, just like every other situation. In this Blog we try to document some highlights in our lives, telling our stories raw but with a touch of lemon.

On the 19th of December, it was finally time to say goodbye to school for the year. And believe you me, even though the saying goes "It's always hard to say goodbye", this goodbye was certainly not the hardest since everyone was already out the door before the teacher could even say "Merry Christmas till next year!"

So anyways, that same evening, Obum got invited to a dinner by the company she had worked with as an intern in the summer holidays and since she wasn't so keen on going alone, she took me along to the coolest restaurant evurr! (serve me amazingly good food and your restaurant is automatically the coolest!)

Going to your first company dinner can be really intimidating especially when you don't know what to wear!

It took us about a whole hour and a half to find the place "Quartier Leech" and arrived half an hour later than scheduled, but thankfully they hadn't started without us yet, and besides, we weren't the only ones slacking on time!
Upon getting there, we were taken aback by the strange collection of blue and white striped planks of wood on the ceiling of the restaurant.

And indeed, the artwork of planks were also to be seen on the inside of the restaurant. The manager of the company Bramberger Architekten, who was the host of the dinner, told us the artist who designed the ceiling claimed there was a story behind the whole thing!

My all time favorite drink!

By the next day, the whole city was slightly covered in snow and in Christmas fever but somehow, we weren't feeling the season at all, not even the snow, the mass of bodies at the main square, the plenty rush or bountiful Christmas lights had anything on us! :o

No matter how young you are, there's always time for a snow fight!

Obum sure does love to photobomb my pictures with her face ~.~

Somewhere along the line the skies spontaneously decided to start burning.

Meanwhile Christmas at Celin's and Barbara's looked more christmasy:

Numbers for Christmas? A must!

And just as we had been awaiting Christmas with so much enthusiasm, the joy over New Year was bombastic! What made the waiting even more exciting was the fact that mom and dad weren't even home and Ugo, Obum and I were literally hypnotized by the screens of our phones, which we actually knew was reaaally unhealthy, but we just couldn't be bothered.
So anyways by 23:45, the three of us came together to enter into the New Year praying, just as we had started the one before and by 00:10 we were officially in the New Year which was pretty obvious since our phones just wouldn't stop vibrating with New Year wishes.

In the end, this is how we started the new year:

1.) With food

2.) Staring at empty roads

3.) With New Year church selfies
4.) And more New Year church selfies

5.) Admiring Ugo's drawings while staring at my bracelet
Can someone please explain to Obum that she doesn't necessarily have to be in every picture?!

6.) Learning

7.) Finding out about beautifully unfinished looking cafes with free WIFI

8.) Signing my name on the wall of the cafe's toilet

9.) And more learning!

After Obum sent me this picture, I was like, "Yess! So truee!", but to be sincere, I still haven't mistakenly written 2014 instead of 15 :x
